The Pitfalls
With Careers In Cosmetology
Typically
if you're interested in one of the careers in the cosmetology umbrella
you could be trained to perform manicures, hair cutting, styling,
shampooing, makeup or possibly other services.
You
will have to get training and be licensed in the state which you live
and many of the cosmetology
schools online give the specifics to your state.
Most of the material that you come across and read will indicate that
you can expect to earn more money as you become more experienced in
your field.
And yet I've been in salons where there were
hairdressers sitting in their own chair reading a magazine and waiting
for a walk-in or their next scheduled appointment. So there are some
pitfalls to watch out for.
The pitfalls with careers in cosmetology could be:
- wages only by experience
- must build client list to develop steady income
- can have some very slow days
- rely on the advertising that the salon does
- you really don't understand basic salon marketing ideas
- salaries between $30 and $50K on average which
means some are less
Even
though $50,000 a year sounds good, in reality with housing and living
expenses what they are it's not all that much money today. Add to this
your transportation and fuel cost (ouch) plus health insurance if
you're self employed.
Now, this is important
... I'm not going to just leave you with
some negative thoughts going on in your head by pursuing a career in
cosmetology but suggest to you that you spend some time on this website.
Bookmark
it and come back often ... why? Because I built this site
to help new
and older stylist along with the self-employed stylists learn how to
earn
more money than others in this industry do. And a lot of what
you
get is absolutely free.
Nevertheless, there's work to be done to
get you there and it'll take some time and you will have to apply
yourself. And then you can salute yourself and watch your business grow
to heights that you never imagined.
